About the Professional Learning Committee

The Professional Learning Committee aims to enhance the academic success of multilingual students by offering guidance on professional development best practices. It hosts quarterly webinars on various topics based on suggestions from SEAs and LEAs, featuring research-based approaches for educating multilingual learners. The committee recommends strategies that capitalize on expertise and open-source resources, and provides guidelines for systemic and improvement-oriented professional learning. It also collects experiences from SEAs and LEAs to provide ideas on the best use of federal funds for training, coaching, mentoring, and modeling.

The Professional Learning Committee meets on the the third Thursday of the month from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm ET/6:00 pm - 7:00 pm CT/5:00 pm - 6:00 pm MT, 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm PT. 

Meet the Chairs

Rob Greenshaw

Rob Greenhaw is a Missouri Migrant and English Language Learning (MELL) Instructional Consultant at EducationPlus in St. Louis.  He provides consultation to schools that are working to implement high-quality, comprehensive and collaborative educational programs for English Learners (ELs). Rob also conducts professional development workshops that focus on providing practical strategies to support, instruct, and assess EL students at all levels and across content areas. Before joining EducationPlus as a consultant 6 years ago, Rob had 14 years of experience in public education in a variety of roles including Spanish teacher, Elementary classroom teacher,  EL teacher, and EL Program Coordinator.  Rob is passionate about working with teachers to help them feel confident in their ability to meet the needs of their English Learner students who he believes can not only meet grade-level standards, but exceed them. 

Dr. Carol Salva

Dr. Carol Salva is an author and award winning educator with proven success working with under-schooled, multilingual learners classified as SLIFE (Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education). She works with program leaders across the United States and Canada as a lead Seidlitz Education consultant.  Dr. Salva is a former elementary, middle and high school teacher. She is a certified writing coach and certified dual language trainer. Research has added important considerations to the field, regarding persistence of older SLIFE.  Carol hosts the popular Boosting Achievement podcast and lives with her husband and three children in Texas. 

Dr. Daisy Skelly

Dr. Daisy Skelly has over 20 years’ experience working in all levels of education, from early childhood to higher education.  Currently, she is the Title III Coordinator and English Language Development Specialist at Wright City R-II School District (MO) and adjunct instructor for Lindenwood University.  Dr. Skelly completed her Doctorate of Education degree in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Andragogy (the art and science of teaching adults) at Lindenwood University, where she defended her dissertation, A Mixed-Methods Study of Applying Andragogical Practices to an Online TESOL Teacher Training Course at a Midwestern University.  Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her husband and adult children.  While Daisy is not multilingual, she believes in the importance and power of multilingualism and advocates for her students and their families to share their language gifts with the local community and the world.
