NAELPA Quarterly Webinars

As part of the commitment to provide quality professional development opportunities for our members, NAELPA hosts three to four webinars annually on topic that are of interest to educators working with Multilingual Learners/English Learners MLs/ELs (NAELPA prefers the term Multilingual Learner (ML) in a effort to recognize fluency in more than one language as a asset but realizes that no term will be acceptable to everyone). NOTE: To access recordings and other materials from past webinars you must be logged into the NAELPA website. A website account is free. Sign up using the link on the upper right of your screen. Or click here to sign up.

2021-2021 SY Quarterly Webinars

For the 2021-2022 School Year, the NAELPA Quarterly Webinars will have a different format. NAELPA is collaborating with the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the US Department of Education, Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA) to host Three-Part webinars, one each quarter, that will cover in depth the requirements for programs for Multilingual Learners (MLs) as outlined in Castañeda's three prongs, which are: 1) ML programs must be based on sound educational theory; 2) ML programs must be implemented effectively with adequate resources and personnel; and 3) ML programs must be evaluated as effective in eliminating language barriers.

The first of the three-part webinars will include a presentation of the requirements related to each prong. The second webinar will be scheduled within a week of the first 'content' webinar and will be designed so that participants can discuss various aspects of the can discuss topics related to the content discussed in several breakout rooms. The third webinar in each quarterly three-part webinar will be a panel discussion of how the Castaeda prong discussed is being implemented in school districts. NAELPA, CCSSO, and OELA are working to set dates for these three-part webinars. The first three-part webinar will be scheduled toward the end of September 2021. Stay tuned for more information.

All 12 webinars are being scheduled through NAELPA Online Meeting Software called Sched. You only need to register once in order to be able to access all the quarterly webinars for this series. After you have registered you will receive information about how to access the webinars via Sched.
