NAELPA Supports National Dual Language
Teacher Preparation Standards
The Executive Board of the National Association of English Learner Program Administrators (NAELPA) met in Albuquerque in November during the 2019 La Cosecha Dual Language Conference. It was the first time the Executive Board has been able to meet face-to-face and there are hopes that it this will turn into an annual event. The board met starting at about 8:30am up until about 2:30pm.
While much of the focus of those meetings was preparation and planning for the 2020 NAELPA Annual Conference, which will be held February 24-25, 2020 at the Tropicana Las Vegas in collaboration with NABE, the board took part in a pre-conference workshop dedicated to providing updates regarding the National Dual Language Education Teacher Preparation Standards (NDLETPS). The NAELPA Executive Board members were eager to learn more about the NDLETPS and the newly formed Specialized Professional Association, called The National Consortium for Dual Language Education. This newly formed organization will serve as the foundation for the official acceptance of the NDLETPS.
